Culture = performance

Culture = performance Culture is critical to a business, and so is performance.

You can’t have a good culture with poor or average performance, they go hand in hand.

Sometimes the best way to address a poor culture is to address the performance, because as that improves you get a chance to also improve the culture.

Culture is like the cake, performance is like the icing. If your cake it iced in dog shit then address the dog shit first because no matter how tasty the cake is, no one’s going to eat it.

Make today your masterpiece

Make today your masterpiece I was driving to our Gold Coast office this morning, and because I’d left my life planner at home and was not able to write out the values I choose to live by which I do every morning, I decided to say them out loud.

So this morning I expressed out loud my choice as to how I was going to live today. Then I made a decision to live that way. Then I gave gratitude for this gift that today is and resolved to make it a masterpiece. I did this over and over with total certainty and fully emotionally engaged.

It was powerful. I connected with who I am at my best, and I felt grateful for that person.

I got pretty carried away, I’m sure people next to me at the traffic lights thought I was mad, but I’ll never see them again and I don’t care what others think of me, I do care about how I show up today and what I think of myself though.

Today is a gift, and what you do with it is your choice.

Make it your masterpiece.

All that matters is who you are on the inside? Isn’t it?

All that matters is who you are on the inside? Isn’t it? This blog is going to sound a bit mean. Just letting you know that now.

‘All that matters is who you are on the inside’ is the catch cry of the unsuccessful, the lazy, the people who have given up on their dreams and are living lives of massive compromise.

If the results in your life aren’t what you want, it’s much nicer to say ‘they don’t matter, who I am on the inside is what matters’, rather than being honest that things aren’t where you want them to be.

That way you can still create an identity of success even though all evidence is to the contrary.

Who you are on the inside does matter, but only to the extent that it impacts what you do on the outside and therefore the results you get in your life. And that’s exciting, because what you do is 100% your choice.

Welcome to outer space

Welcome to outer space You’ve saved and managed to get yourself a seat on Virgin Galactic. It’s likely this will be your only ever trip to space, and you have four hours to experience it.

How much time are you going to spend watching the inflight movie? Or checking Facebook? Or checking email?

You only have four hours up there.

Now, back on Earth, you have trusted colleagues to interact with, loved family to share with, cherished friends to spend time with. Is it worth delaying, deferring or missing those once in a lifetime interactions to keep your inbox clear.

Passion is found as much in what we say ‘no’ to as what we say ‘yes’ to.

Life happens, it’s your choice what you say ‘yes’ to.
