The tale of two people…

In church the other day, the pastor gave a sermon that really stuck with me. He talked about two people.

One person gets to the end of their life with very few earthly assets. They stand in front of God, and God looks at then and says, "Well done. You used your time well."

The other person finishes their life with a huge amount of earthly wealth, cars, boats, houses. Their life ends and they stand in front of God, who says, "What happened? Why did you squander all the time I gave you?"

I realise these are two quite extreme examples, but it really hit home to me.

There is nothing wrong with doing well materially, but it is always worth remembering that ultimately that is not how we will be measured. That is not the measure of the value of a life.

For me, the poignancy of the reminder is to ensure I focus on what matters now and not wait until the end.
