Equilibrium…

Pondering life and the environment, I came to a realisation.

The natural order of things is to revert to equilibrium.

The further we get from equilibrium, the stronger the forces against us.

Think about movies that have a future where there has been a catastrophe. Stuff made by humans is in disarray, nature takes over.

At two extremes…

If we were all living in nature and were completely self-sustaining, we’d be close to equilibrium.

This doesn’t work, though, with the level of population we’re at.

If we build huge, densely populated cities and mess with the environment, we are a long way from equilibrium. And if we’re a long way from equilibrium, we’re fighting.

So, my pondering…

How can ‘progress’ and growth be done in a way that returns us closer to equilibrium, not further away as it appears to be now?

Perhaps it starts with getting ourselves, our lives, and our minds in equilibrium.
